2010 HONOReform Advocacy Congressional Hearings
Washington, DC February 22 – 23, 2010

HONOReform will participate in Congressional Hearings regarding the mounting evidence against the causes of Healthcare Associated Infections (HAI's) throughout the country. Each year, HONOReform advocates from across the nation gather in Washington, DC to meet with their Senators, Representatives and staff about HONOReform's legislative agenda.

The goal of the Congressional hearing hearing was to address healthcare associated infections (HAI's) and to examine the myriad of national outbreaks that have occurred within the past 5 years. The majority of these outbreaks derive from the reuse of syringes intended for single use and also a general lapse in infection control. HONOReform's Safe Injection Policy Task Force is requesting government support and funds for education and awareness to include (1) evaluation of the impact of the One and Only Campaign, an injection safety and awareness campaign, (2) the provision of CDC support in promoting private sector and academic health care solutions and (3) funds to support the augmentation of survey capacity in outpatient settings to strengthen state capacity to detect and track infections as a result of errors or lapse in infection control and (4) funds to develop and disseminate safe practice materials for all patient settings.
