NEW CMS REQUIREMENTS FOR AMBULATORY SURGICAL CENTERS
Effective Date: May 18 2009
Compliance Date: July 15, 2009
ACCORDING TO NEW CMS REQUIREMENTS (42 CFR 416 41(c))
- ASC's that are Medicare certified or seeking Medicare certification must demonstrate compliance with all CfC's to include a comprehensive written Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Plan
- ALL ASC's having AAAHC/Medicare deemed status must demonstrate compliance with all CfC's including the new revisions
CMS revisions (42 CFR) include:
- New ASC definition
- Re organization of governing body
- Surgical services revision: anesthesia risk and evaluation
- Detailed standards for Quality Assurance and Performance
- Improvement laboratory services re organization
- Addition of patients rights, infection control and patient admission, assessment and discharge criteria
- Your Disaster Plan must provide for emergency care of patients, staff and others in the facility in the event of a fire, other natural disaster, equipment failure or pandemic flu.
- A Pandemic Flu Plan must meet CDC recommendations.
- Your infection Control program must meet the new CMS CFR 416.51 requirements.
- The new reporting requirements for SRE's and HAI's must be implemented.
